Glass Balustrade Installation
Glass Balustrade Installation Cardiff
Project Brief
We were initially contacted by Tom who is managing the project at Penarth marina. Tom explained what the team were trying to achieve and sent me the plans for the luxury floating lodges. The swanky new lodges were being built off site and required a balustrade system to be installed once they had been moored at the marina in Cardiff. Sticking with the boat theme tom had requested a mirror finish glass balustrade railing system with top hand rail which was the perfect match for the floating lodges. The floating lodges are situated next to the new Deck restaurant formally known as pier 64 which was owned by craig Bellamy ex professional footballer.
Ordering & Installation Process
The ordering process had been pretty straight forward as all 10 lodges were built off plan and all measurements were identical. Once we had received the cad drawings, we worked out all the parts we needed to build the mirror finish balustrade systems and started the manufacturing process. We initially ordered 6 units as these were the first batch arriving on site at Cardiff marina.
Project Hurdles?
There were a few small hurdles to this project as you could imagine being on the water and access issues to the marinas. Once all these had been resolved the balustrade install had been pretty straight forward (minus a few lost tools that are now amongst the Sealife)

Client Feedback/ Review
Nathan and his team have been incredibly easy to work with on this project, very flexible when this was needed on a project like ours. The weather played a big part on time scales being on the water. We would recommend dd glass balustrades as a company and hope to work together again on future projects we have coming up.
Installation Process
After all the preparation work had been completed leigh had the go-ahead to install the balustrade systems Cardiff at Penarth marina
Stage 1
We initially had to get the 10mm toughened glass to the pods which had not been easy as there are a number of locked gates which required key fobs to enter. Once through the gates we had to walk a small distance on the jetty to get the balustrade system on site.
 Stage 2
Centre posts marked out and chalk lines marked ready to fit the 316 stainless steel end posts.
Stage 3
Once the pre-assembled balustrade end posts are installed this allows us to add the string lines to the top and bottom of the glass clamps so we can start adding the pre-assembled middle posts in a perfectly straight line.
Stage 4
Once all the stainless-steel balustrade posts are installed the adjustable handrail brackets are added to the top of the posts to allow us to add the 42.2mm top handrail.
Stage 5
Once all the mirrored finish stainless-steel balustrade posts are installed the adjustable handrail brackets are added to the top of the posts to allow us to add the 42.2mm top handrail.
Stage 6
The 10mm toughened glass can now be installed safely to complete the glass balustrade system.
Final stage
The finishing touches, the 316 stainless steel elements and the 10mm toughened glass is cleaned thoroughly and the final inspection is carried out.
